Bungle Bungles to Broome

Photos missing from the Things to do in Broome. I accidently deleted them and couldn't put them back in sequence so read the Broome bit of the blog and these will make sense maybe.

Get married on Cable Beach.

Go sailing.

Gee its so hard to pick which pictures so be warned you’ll get heaps.

Bungle Bungles

Fitzroy Crossing

Well didn’t expect to stay here for 2 nights but we ‘the car, camper trailer and Lorraine’ were towed here arriving at 11pm at night. I’m sure the entire caravan park were woken on our arrival with all the noise that the tow truck made with off loading us. The local police also joined in by dropping by and giving us some light so we could setup. Luckily the car problem was only minor and was fixed easily. We had dislodged a couple of wires and blew a fuse.

Once the car was returned to us we set off exploring the area.

Geikie Gorge … boat tour

First sighting of a fresh water crocodile in the wild … and Jane will not be happy until she has seen a salt water one. I’m thinking she needs to go to a wild life park!!!

A shag on a rock/twig.

Windjana

On the way to Windjana stopped of at Tunnel Creek and did the walk thru the tunnel and the water … no photos just the memories.

Camped a night at Windjana and did the gorge walk and saw heaps of fresh water crocs on the banks and in the water.

Now the first ever sighting of a blue one.

Derby

Drove up to Derby and checked out the port . The tide was coming in at an amazing rate.

Heaps of kites hanging around the port.

Broome

Things to do in Broome …

Go to the stair case to the moon (full) markets, walk thru China Town, get a hair cut and ...

Visit the port.

Go to Cable Beach and don’t take photos of Lorraine!

Oops the port again.

Go for a camel ride on Cable Beach.

Go sailing, get married ... oops I deleted those so you will find them at the top.

Watch the sunset, take photos, and drink a beer … can you guess what we did?

Willie Creek

Drove out to Willie Creek pearl farm and didn’t drive over the salt pan.

Jane did a tour and Lorraine just sat around reading and drinking iced chocolate for a couple of hours. The tour was really good and a few pearl purchases were made.

And the water was that blue!

Went out to Gantheaume Point and the color of the rock cliffs were amazing.

Oh dear another sunset picture but this one is the view from our campsite in Broome.

Wangi Falls to Bungle Bungles

Well I have heaps of time to write this blog as the car is broken down in the middle of no-where … 149km to the nearest town … no telephone signal. Jane has hitched a ride into town and I’m here with the car … hopefully a mechanic stops and not a psycho killer. Maybe I’ll have a beer to settle my nerves. Beer??? Yep Lorrine has given up on seeking out white wine and has been converted to a beer drinker.

Darwin

Spent a few nights in Darwin and did the usual sightseeing things ie. museum with the cyclone Tracey display, the World War II oil tunnels. Mindil Beach night markets etc…

Mindil Beach sunset

Apparently luxury accommodation ... in war time

Victoria River Crossing

Spent a night here on our way to Kununurra.

Lorraine after a long day of driving and after putting the tent-up … beer time and blog time. Don’t worry still composing the photos for the putting up of the tent should be in the next blog that’s if I live to tell the tale.

Very nicer biker on a Harley just pulled up … ummm may be this is the way to pickup blokes but parting comment was not so good ‘don’t you let Ivan Milat near the car’!!!

Major Mitchell cockatoo at Victoria River Homestead …

NT and WA road signs ... ummmm

Victoria river and a very expensive bridge just for defence force use... a locked gate across it kept us out.

Finally WA ... around Kununurra

Lake Argyle at sunset

Story of our trip so far … if you maybe wondering why no pictures of Kakadu well all the tracks we wanted to go on were closed due to flood damage and are currently in the process of being rebuilt.

Sue and Ross can you guess where?

And then what followed is 100km rough dirt track with corrugations, sand and multiple creek crossings and gate openings(for Lorraine) to arrive at Wyndham to the five rivers junction and lookout … and 44 degrees in the Sun … not happy … but the view was good.

Hey Susie do you know these twits … navy guys from HMAS Perth … whole heap of bike riders (teams & individuals) were just completing the Broome to Kununurra bike ride via the Gibb River Road … 800km on dirt in 5 days … nutters

Hills around Kununurra

Bungle Bungles

Wow longest 59km I’ve done … it only took us 2 and half hours … on the way out we improved our time by 20 mins.

Arrived late but still went to Echinda Chasm … it was a bit dark but still worth the walk especially when we met this little fellow.

Janes fixation with the full moon

Cathedral Gorge

Battery is about to die so will continue this when and if I am ever rescued.

Needless to say since you are reading this the car drama is now over ie. finally rescued, both of us very relieved to see the other, and got to bed at midnight. More photos of Bungle Bungles to come in next blog.

Banka Banka to Wangi Falls … still getting hotter!!!

Lots of road trains …

Daley Waters … outback pub

We stopped at the historic pub for lunch. First barra burger of the trip and it was good.

Now this is my kind of town … angle parking and that’s any angle mate! Especially amusing to me as Jane had just commented on the way I had just parked which was not toooo straight.

Mataranka … hot springs

Enjoyed the springs so much we stayed another night and Lorraine actually went in.

There is absolutely no chance that Lorraine will be taken by the crocs its more likely going to be Jane with the amount of time she spends in the water.

Bitter springs …

More ant hills … growing thru fences

Visited Elsey’s Cemetery … We of the Never Never

Spent an afternoon exploring the Roper River

Katherine Gorge

Spent an afternoon exploring Katherine Gorge
Edith Falls

Camped at Edith Falls and did the loop walk … well worth the climb

Litchfield National Park ... lots of tracks closed due to flood damage

More ant hills … but black ones

Camped at Wangi Falls and the waterfall pounded away all night.
