Ceduna to Clare

Ceduna

After traveling 1384km from Kalgoorlie via the Nullarbor to Ceduna we thought the worst was over but not!!! We were woken at 2am by a dust storm coming thru. We lay awake for hours wondering when the tent was going to be ripped apart. When daylight finally arrived we stuck our heads out and decided nope not going out there … the wind and the dust had calmed by about lunch time. Apparently there had been trees up rooted and cars damaged. Luckily the only thing we suffered from was lack of sleep and dust and grit thru absolutely everything.

Sorry no photos of the dust storm due to the grit factor but this is where we were camped and the owner of the park assured us we would be protected from the wind … that’s if it had come from the normal direction.
Elliston

Stopped for lunch at a pretty little spot called Streaky Bay … great bakery … good pies Kristy!
Stopped for photos at Murphy’s Haystacks … pink granite rocks
Spent the night at Elliston and did a walk around the cliffs and watched the sunset.

Port Lincoln

Well the weather is getting better … this time we had gail force winds and hail but that didn’t stop us from exploring.
The port … I’m assuming heaps of boats docked due to the bad weather.
Some boats still coming and going.
Port Augusta

The view on the road to Port Augusta.
Stopped for lunch at Whyalla to check out the town (as a work friend is from there) … well I’m thinking it has changed a bit since she was there … a very nice foreshore and beautiful local wild dolphins teasing people at the jetty ie. you could reach out and touch her.

Gee I hope the trains don’t keep us a wake tonight … view from caravan park.
Well the Port Augusta Wharf festival is an event a tourist should not miss … not!!! Jane and I attended and lasted about an hour.

Clare

Finally made it to the Clare Valley and luckily just in time to celebrate my birthday. Checked out the Riesling Trail and went to the pub for dinner.
The Riesling Trail is an old railway track that has been converted into a bike/walking track. The trail is 26km in length and is very scenic ie. rolling green hills, vineyards, cows in the paddocks, etc...

Went and explored the historic townships of Burra … the heritage trail.
Beautiful country side.
Old copper mine ... gee the ore wagons were small in the old days.
1850s buildings.
Primitive dwellings … miners dugouts.
Loved the Clare Valley so much we did another trip with the girls ... so checkout the blog entries for Adelaide for the rest of the photos of Clare Valley.
